Neck pain is one of the most common types of pain among the general population. A lot of neck pain comes from certain repeat behaviors, like staring down at a phone too much or sleeping on tall pillows that put the neck at an awkward angle. However, there are certain times when neck pain is far more serious and really is an issue that should be tended to by a chiropractor. A chiropractor is well-versed in injuries to the spine, and that includes the upper spine that makes up the neck. Take a look at some of the signs you should seek immediate attention for your neck pain.
Your neck pain is accompanied by pain or lack of motion in your arms.
If the neck pain you are experiencing comes along with radiating pain that shoots down your arms or if you cannot move your arms as usual because they feel numb, it is important to seek treatment right away. This kind of reaction could point to things like an aggravated disk in the upper spinal column, and in most cases, this kind of issue will not go away on its own. The radiating problem could also be due to affected nerves surrounding the vertebrae in your neck.
Your neck pain is causing you to have other symptoms.
Your neck hurts, but you also have a major headache, you feel a bit nauseous, and maybe even a bit dizzy. If you are having this kind of reaction to the neck pain you have, it could be a sign that an injury has occurred to the vertebrae in your neck. In rare instances, the presence of these kinds of symptoms can signify a serious infection in the soft tissues that surround your spine.
Your neck pain does not go away with rest.
For the most part, general neck pain that is brought on by strain to the neck will go away with enough rest. For example, if you wake up and you can barely move your neck because you strained it sleeping awkwardly the night before, your pain will likely subside over the course of a few days if you take it easy and get plenty of rest. However, if the pain in your neck does not subside after resting the muscles in your neck for a short period, it is always best to see a chiropractor's attention. Your issue could be far more serious than it seems.
